AI Round-up: 13 September 2026

Amodei proposes slowing frontier AI development

Dario Amodei called for slower advances in frontier AI so safety work can catch up, proposing embedded independent evaluators, coordination among democratic countries and wider international cooperation. Anthropic committed to the evaluator step, but an industry-wide slowdown remains a proposal rather than an agreed pause. Separately, Sam Altman ruled out an OpenAI IPO in 2026 while emphasising safety and alignment work.

Microsoft announced a limited Grok rollout in Copilot for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, starting with Frontier programme customers. Together AI announced DeepSeek V4.1 Flash availability, while OpenAI highlighted community-built Astra projects. Videos examined AI safety, practical ChatGPT Work use and a developer’s large backlog of Codex-generated Linux patches; Reddit discussions centred on multi-model coding tools and agent workflows.
