AI Round-up: 4 September 2026

GPT-6 Astra

OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra, presenting it as a step up in computer use, software engineering, visual understanding and agentic work. Its announcement dominated X and YouTube, while OpenAI published a safety overview and committed $1 billion to cyberdefence as outside scrutiny focused on agent behaviour and containment. SpaceX AI separately apologised for a Grok outage traced to its Memphis compute centre.

Elsewhere, Nvidia set an October launch for RTX Spark AI PCs, Crusoe reportedly reached a $30 billion valuation, and Moonshot filed confidentially for a Hong Kong IPO. Anthropic remained flagged as a defence-supply risk, Gemini 3.8 Flash reached GitHub Copilot, Microsoft detailed an ASCII-smuggling prompt-injection technique, and Perplexity's open-source Lily engine drew developer interest.
