AI Round-up: 23 August 2026

Alibaba's $10 billion AI financing

Alibaba moved to raise $10 billion through a Hong Kong share placement to fund AI and cloud expansion, while Nvidia customers were reportedly warned of AI-related price rises above 15%. Together AI also published DeepSWE results showing GLM-5.3 matching Claude Fable 5's single-shot solve rate at roughly one-fifth of the cost and moving ahead when given multiple attempts.

Harvard's $699 startup course put AI clones of faculty in the classroom, Inherent said its research-replication teammate outperformed systems from Anthropic and OpenAI, and Databricks presented Omnigent as an open-source meta-harness for coordinating agents. OpenAI's support for stronger California safety rules and continued scrutiny of frontier-model containment rounded out the day's coverage.
